“We will rescue Ahnset”—Ketahn turned to face his friends fully and shifted his spear so the point was skyward as he slammed his lower fists against his chest—“and kill the rest. No mercy this day.” “We nourish the roots with blood,” said Rekosh. “May the Tangle devour their bones,” rumbled Urkot. “With me, brothers.” Ketahn spun about and plunged into the jungle.
What did it matter how large or small a male’s stem was compared to those of his friends? So long as one’s mate was satisfied, it made no difference. Did male humans need to prove themselves worthy of potential mates by proving they had the largest stems? Perhaps males with larger stems were more likely to produce strong offspring? But none of that seemed correct given the humans’ preference to cover their bodies.
“No, Ahnset. No. You do not inflict suffering. You are a protector. You are the shield. But shields cannot stop every blow. That does not make a shield useless. The other humans need you. I need you, sister, and I am sorry I made you think otherwise.”
A large, rough hand smoothed up her thigh to grip her bare ass, holding her in place. “I have need of you, female.”
“Wow. I…can’t say I’m not jealous of that,” Lacey said. “No kidding,” Callie replied. “He’s like…Tarzan but with extra legs and stuff.”
His low chitter was absolutely devilish. “My little mate means to claim me?”
“I cannot overpower you,” she whispered, “but I will conquer you all the same.” “Ah, my nyleea…” His tongue slipped out to tease the corner of her mouth. “You already have.”
She’d never imagined seeing Ketahn like this, sprawled out before her, surrendering himself to her—ceding control. And God, he was beautiful. All those things she’d once thought monstrous had become things she loved, and she cherished every bit of his body.
“Mmm, I love it when you miss me,” she purred as she turned her face to kiss his headcrest.
“Don’t vrix…lay eggs?” Ahmya asked. “Oh, my God. No, no, no…” Ivy turned terrified eyes toward Diego as she clutched at her stomach. “Am I? Am I going t-to—” Her breath grew ragged, and her skin tingled as panic seized her. Eggs? Am I going to lay eggs?
Rekosh swept her into his arms before she could fall, clutching her against his chest. “I have you, vi’keishi.” Little flower. Ahmya stared up at him with wide eyes, her dark hair clinging to her cheeks. Rekosh placed a hand on her head, gently guiding her to lean it on his chest, and she curled up in his arms, nestling against him.
What to Expect When You’re Expecting Vrix Babies
“Do not think our guests have made me forget that you have entered our den covered in mud, Garahk.” He chittered and looked down at his mud-slathered chest. “One more heartbeat without you in my eyes would bring my death, my heartsflame.” “We will share words later.” “We will share much more,” he purred.
By your eightfold eyes—or the eyes of any god that will listen—see my mate through this safely. Or I will tear apart this world and every other to avenge her.
“I also never thought my dream lover would be an arachnotaur.” “Vrix.” She grinned. “A sexy spider man.”
