“Release him, Rekosh,” Ketahn growled. His muscles were abuzz with tension, and a dense, heavy lump hung in his gut. He had no desire to hurt his friend, but he would not allow harm to befall Diego either. “I will not watch another male lay his hands upon her like this,” Rekosh said with a snarl. He strained forward.
“Right?” Lacey said. “You’re the one who refused to wake up this morning until Urkot poured water on your head, Callie.”
“Mating is sometimes a battle, and females may fight. A female can force the male and his seed out of her if she chooses, if she thinks he is not strong or not worthy. The tendrils…caress her inside, to make her open within so his seed may reach her eggs.”
“It was you watching me, wasn’t it?” she asked. He turned his face toward her and breathed in deep. “Yes.”
Rekosh swept her into his arms before she could fall, clutching her against his chest. “I have you, vi’keishi.” Little flower.
“How long does it take a vrix egg to hatch?” she asked. “Four moon cycles.” Ivy tensed, and the air locked in her throat. Four months? Four months?
