She was a member of the Communist prisoners’ aid group Rote Hilfe—Red Aid—and participated in treasonous activities under the alias “Hertha.” In 1940, the Gestapo hauled her back to Berlin and threw her in prison for six months. Ten months after her release, the Gestapo arrested her again.
