“I’ll be better company than a dildo. I promise.” She shakes her head again and swipes her kit off the ground. “Doubtful,” is her reply as she walks away. I can’t help but appreciate the way her cargo pants hug the round globes of her ass. The things I’d do to that ass. “Bet I can make you come harder too.” She laughs, a girlish laugh. Not her usual throaty husk. “I’d like to see you try.” Challenge accepted.
“Good. Because I want to make myself abundantly clear.” We’re so close. I can feel the entire length of his body covering mine. He teases me with the lightest brush of his lips against my ear as he drops his voice and holds me captive. “You are not the pawn, Mira. You are the prize.”
“Challenge accepted. But I’m not going to fuck you until you’re begging for it.”
He’s leaning against the frame of the stall door, hands shoved in the pockets of his bespoke midnight blue tuxedo, doing that thing he does where his tongue runs across the inside of his cheek. His hair is slicked back perfectly, totally tidy, not a single strand out of place.
She could let loose with me, and I’d still stand back and let her be the fiercely independent woman she is. I don’t want to tame her; I just want a front-row seat to watch her win the race.
“Yes, oh. But I do rather enjoy your jealous side. Do you think I’ve been asking you to let me take you on a date for the past several months just so I could pursue another woman after finally tasting your lips? Did you think I’d give up that easily?” “No, I thought you were teasing me. I thought it was all a big joke. A game.” I lean down to whisper in her ear. “Absolutely nothing about the way I feel for you is a joke. And I’ll keep telling you that until you believe me.”
Nothing about this feels fake. Our bodies. Our minds. Our hearts. Absolutely everything about being with Mira feels like one of the most real things I’ve ever had in my life. And I won’t let her slip between my fingers now.
I’m going to make her come on them instead.
“Do you remember what I said I was going to do to you if I had you up against a wall, Dr. Thorne?” “What?” Her voice is pure lust, almost slurred. “I told you that you’d be the meal.”
His teeth find my nipple through the thin silk of my dress, biting down gently before sucking, and a moan erupts from my throat. “Quiet, Kitten,” he murmurs, dropping to one knee. “I don’t want to be interrupted.”
This man casually dropped a kitten while down on his knees and expected me to be okey with it. Ah AH ah AH NO
“Jesus Christ,” she breathes out with a small tremble in her voice. “I don’t really care what you call me while I do it, sweetheart. So long as you spread those legs and let me worship between them.”
“You have beautiful hands. Almost as beautiful as your mind and heart. Sometimes I find myself staring at them while you work, so elegant and strong all at once. Hands that heal. Hands that save lives.” His voice drops. “Hands that belong in mine.”
“Jesus Christ,” I pant as he slides it home. The vibrations rattle through my core, and my legs shake. The visual of him between my legs, completely engrossed—entranced—is more than I can take. “No, Mira. It’s just me.”
The only thing that’s certain about where I’m going is that Mira will be with me when I get there. I’ll make sure of it. I’m playing for keeps.
He’s leaned back in his chair, one foot casually slung over his knee as he looks through the contents of a brown folder with a wall full of books behind him. He’s sexy wearing a simple white dress shirt with cuff links that glint in the light, the veins in his hands bulging in the most mouth-watering way.
“You make me a better man. A happier man. I said it once before, and I meant it: you are mine and I am yours. I will drink whatever ungodly coffee concoctions you bring me. I will worship your body.”
“I would walk through fire for you any day. Over and over again.”
“I’ve never considered myself a particularly good man. I never thought I was a bad man either. I was just a man with a sad past and no one to love. And then I saw you. It only took one look and I swear some part of me knew.”
“I knew my life would never be the same. You didn’t treat me like I was a bad man. You didn’t always treat me like a good one, either. But you made me want to be a better one. You make me want to deserve you. And I have every intention of spending the rest of my life trying.”
“This fire almost stole you from me. I almost lost you. And that’s a mistake I never intend to make again. I intend to cherish you like the treasure you are. This fire burned everything else away. My anger, my vendettas. The only things that mattered to me I pulled out of it. And so, I’m taking this as a fresh start. Everything else is ash—dust in the wind. And now I realize that the only thing that matters is what made it out. You and me.” I pause here, watching my love reflected at me in her eyes. “Mira Thorne, would you do me the incredible honor of being my wife?”
