Perhaps he’s not ready for you. You can’t wait for him and sacrifice your own happiness,”
It’s not a surprise, maybe only another disappointment.
“I’m not going to hit you.” Is he insane? “Aren’t you mad at me?” he asks.
“Then what do you need?” Ace looks straight into my eyes. “I don’t need anything from you.”
“Would you like it if I told you that us being here was written in the stars?” he asks. “Hmm, yes. I would like to believe in something.” “You and me, we’re written in the stars, love.”
“The monsters that live in your mind really do exist. They just have the face of a human,”
Have we taken one step forward and two steps back?
“You have no right to tell me who I can and can’t spend my time with.” This catches his attention. “Calla.” His eyes soften, remembering last night. “No, don’t ‘Calla’ me. I don’t tell you who you can spend ungodly hours of the night with,” I snap. “I can explain.” He closes his eyes for a brief second.
“Don’t walk away from me, Calla.”
We lock eyes together, and I’m safe. He makes me feel calm, high on endorphins. And that’s when I realize we’re collapsing into a black hole. Because nothing that feels this good can last. And nothing can escape a black hole, not even us.
“I think you’re the best thing that I could’ve found,” I say. I gnaw on my bottom lip, dropping my gaze. Ace leans over me and takes my face in both of his hands. He leans down, placing his lips to mine. Pulling away, he brushes a loose strand of hair behind my ear. “You are your best thing.”
“I swear this better be my imagination, because I’m about to beat the fuck out of you.”
“Come with me.” “Where are you going?” I shift from one foot to the other, biting my lip in anticipation. “We,” he corrects me. “And you’ll see.”
“Glad to see you finally found someone worth bringing here,”
“Calla…everything was real. You and me, we are real…”
“I love you,” Ace says.
You can’t rely on him to heal you when he’s the one who broke you.”
Nothing can stay the same. We’re all part of a changing power that twists and turns us in unconceivable ways until we experience it for ourselves. There may be harsh and eccentric lessons to learn, but they are all a reminder that nothing stays the same—not even when you want it to. Every so often, that can be something to look forward to, and other times, it’s something we shy away from. Nevertheless, take everything as it comes, for it’s a gift to be able to move through time and experience what the universe offers you—no matter how forbidding it may seem.
Maybe we’ll meet again in another life. When the stars align.
