AI has this role to play, at least, but a mythology about a coming superintelligence should be placed in the category of scientific unknowns. If we wish to pursue a scientific mystery directly, we must at any rate invest in a culture that encourages intellectual ideas—we will need them, if any path to artificial general intelligence is possible at all.
