As investment pours into renewables and the cost of renewables falls, this is pulling resources and innovation efforts into storage, because energy storage is so important to the ability of renewables to compete with fossil fuels for the lion’s share of electricity generation. Continuing exponential gains will also be enabled by convergent advances in materials science, robotic manufacturing, efficient shipping, and energy transmission. The implication is that solar will dominate sometime during the 2030s.
