We have come to understand many facets of this larger story only with time, and subsequent revelations make clear how little of it many understood as it unfolded. Thanks to the pop heroism of that iconic movie and book All the President’s Men, we’ve long seen the Washington Post as a—perhaps the—central figure of Watergate, crediting the paper’s Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein, Ben Bradlee, and Katharine Graham with courageously cracking open the case.
