“but he preferred to start a war rather than marry me, all so he could be with his true love, that insufferable know-it-all, Evelyn Fairfield.”
So… why wouldn’t he marry a human to show his support in the human-fae war? How was he supposed to marry you if Evelyn was his TRUE LOVE and he wanted to marry her anyway? What is this lady saying? I bet dummy won’t even notice the ridiculous things she saying…
“You mistake me,” I say, my voice low, cold. Shadows seep from my fingertips and writhe around my shoulders. “When I said there was one monster here, I meant…me.” My face transforms with my terrifying glamour, lips peeling back from my teeth. I lunge toward the three women with a hiss. Their shouts pierce the air.
Yeah…. That makes so much sense. Devour the women. Don’t imprison them or hold them accountable. This kingdom is doomed to fail with these two leading the people…
“I’m willing to believe Brother Marus might not define Saint Lazaro. Perhaps if we get to know others from the church, we can learn what they’re really about. What it is they truly want. Their zealots may have preached that fae are demons, but we can change how the brotherhood and the humans see us going forward. And if they refuse to change their misguided perceptions and continue to view us as sinful demons, then…well, they don’t belong in Faerwyvae.”
Why are they even allowed on the Isle at all? Makes no sense if those are their beliefs. Why would they have even wanted to come to Faerwyvae if they thought them to be demons? The Logic Police left the building never to return.
added the caveat that it was only so he could talk to you. As soon as you told me who you are and what your stepfamily was making you do, I knew I couldn’t trust him with you.
Which is why you had no reason whatsoever to panic and react the way you did. You could have simply told her the promise and then promised her you wouldn’t leave her side while Brother Marus spoke with her. Simple. No one nearly dies… 🙄🙄
I release a heavy sigh, another hard question poised on the tip of my tongue. “How important is my inheritance to you? I imagine it makes me a more admirable match.”
You mean to say another DUMB question on the tip of your tongue, especially to ask it even after he does the sarcastic eye roll about how significant it must be…
“It was always my intention to give it to charity. I never planned on keeping it. It makes me uncomfortable to consider benefitting from my father’s demise.
Before, yeah. But not after you know the truth. He obviously left it for you as his sole heir because he loved you and wanted to prevent anyone else getting their hands on it.
In the year that has passed since I destroyed the coach with my wayward magic, I’ve learned to control my song. There have been several mishaps, of course, but in the end, I’ve learned to accept my singing for what it is.
The problem with this statement is that long before your father’s death you were singing freely and not harming anyone or destroying furniture but now you’re acting as if you thought that would happen every time you sang… which is ridiculously stupid. Especially knowing that what triggered that response was your anger and pain at finally knowing the true cause of your father’s death.
When I met him and Gemma last year in the Winter Court, I’d known he was fae but not that he was a wolf in his unseelie form. And I certainly hadn’t a clue he was king, not until word of his broken curse spread through town. By then, Imogen was spreading her own tale, all about how Gemma had betrayed her and stolen Elliot. With Gemma having the heart and favor of the king, her popularity grew, and the townspeople began to admonish every hint of scorn directed at their king’s beloved. Mrs. Coleman moved us far from Winter after that.
And nothing in the previous mention of Gemma hints at ANY of that, nor does it leave room for what was said earlier of them being acquaintances or even being in close proximity enough to be friends… 🙄🙄 Maybe in another book, but not in this one, which was said to be a standalone. It gives Beauty and the Beast vibes though…
I furrow my brow. “Is she all right? Is there anything I can do?” “The best thing you can do is keep her whereabouts a secret.”
Wouldn’t asking those questions imply you know nothing about her whereabouts since you don’t know the answers? 🙄🙄 That was the dumbest response to what he’d just said… And his response to that dumb ish was even dumber.
