That’s when I feel it. The sensation I’m not alone. I whirl around on the piano bench to find a raven hovering behind me.
No one has called me Em since my father was alive.
“I know what we can talk about instead. First, let’s start with you telling me who you really are.”
he whirls around and stands in front of me, one arm pressing me close to his back. “I know you’re there,” he calls out.
for I’ve seen the tapestry of your emotions. I’ve felt what you’ve felt, I’ve witnessed the kind of person you are. I’ve heard you hum and seen depths of your energetic signature that might as well have been your soul.
I love you. No matter how badly I want you to stay with every beat of my heart, I won’t make you. I won’t ask you to. But please know that you were loved by me.”
“How can I make myself any clearer? You have my whole heart. If that means I can’t be king, then so be it.
“Em. My Ember.” The sound of my name—my full name—fills my heart with the most delectable pleasure. “My Franco.”
