Altman had originally said OpenAI would openly share all its research. That’s why it was called OpenAI. But after seeing the turmoil created by the rise of generative models and face recognition and the threat of autonomous weapons, he now said that as time went on, it would hold back some technologies as it gauged their effect on the world at large.
