I made a face, then asked. "So, how much competition do I have with Gil?" She didn't hesitate. "None. Not an ounce. Iota. Or atom. None.
When I turned to walk to the car, "Another One Bites the Dust" was playing through the doorbell.
"Does that mean you and Rook–" "Doesn't mean a thing for my house." I cracked up. "Didn't think so."
"You were kinda denying it back there." He shook his head, his eyes softening as they looked over my face. "I wasn't denying it. I just didn't need them to be the ones telling you how I feel about you. It should come from me, right?"
