Gildas, unlike Bede, makes no mention of the Saxons engaging the Scots and Picts – in his account they simply become ever more demanding and aggressive towards their British hosts, before finally revolting and ravaging the whole country, an event that Gildas describes in the same apocalyptic terms that Bede later borrowed.
