But Asha’s favourite way to fill chore slots was with the ship’s chef, a large sentient named Ossock whose grey, leathery skin always smelled of spices, and whose six arms, and huge smile apparently reminded Obi of ‘that cool cat-bus from Totoro’, whatever that meant. He was incredibly kind and didn’t ask much from her in the way of conversation.
“To be a loser, you have to have started the fight equally. The fight had to be fair. But he had everything, and we had nothing, and all we wanted was a home.” Her voice was nearly breaking. “To be a loser assumes parity, assumes equality, and I have never been equal to anything that doesn’t come with a fucking price tag attached.”
