But if the Christian account of human persons is correct, where I am matters. By dwelling in a place, I am forming a relationship with it, one with bonds and obligations. I don’t have the freedom to alienate or separate myself from my physical environment any more than it has the freedom to deny me. There may be situations that justify leaving home and recommitting to a new place, but like leaving a church or distancing ourselves from our family, we should approach such decisions with extreme trepidation and prayer.
