The great danger in allowing a community to aid you in discovering meaning is that at some point the community is going to overstep its bounds and try to enforce meaning. Perhaps you attend a church because it “feels like home.” You appreciate that the church community shares many of your own political attitudes. But then one Sunday morning the pastor denounces as sin some behavior that you hold quite dear.
