“Don’t be a brat. That’s my job. I like it. You can’t have it.”
“I’d prefer that you acted normal for a change.” The mamba pursed her lips. “Sounds like that’d take some effort on my part. I don’t like effort. Count me out.”
Bailey gaped. “Son of a bitch. We totally need to dig out the tire iron.” Aspen dug her nails into the arms of the chair. “And also the claymore.” Corbin’s brow furrowed. “You have a claymore?” “You don’t?” asked Bailey. His frown deepened. “No.” “Huh,” said the mamba. “Well that’s weird.” “No, Bailey, it’s not. I’d say most people don’t own a claymore,” he told her. “That’s a problem they should rectify. Swords often come in handy. As do bullwhips.” “You have a bullwhip?” “You don’t?” “No.” “Weird.”
If you were Bailey, there’d be an endless number of potential suspects—she angers people like there’s a reward for it.” “Their anger is my reward,” said Bailey.
“Aw Randy, when it comes to your opinion, I could swallow ten boxes of laxatives and still fail to give a shit.”
Truly, I couldn’t give half a shit, let alone an entire fuck.
“Jesus. What sadist trained him?” “Not sadist, genius,” Valentina corrected.
He looked at Bailey. “You’re like the sister I never wanted and am glad I don’t have.”
“Try and find a way to love me, even if only a little.” She raised her head and glared daggers at him. “I already love you, you big fucking idiot! How could you not know that?”
Tate and the girls congratulated him. Bailey went as far as trying to hug him, but Camden easily kept her at arms’ length by holding his hand against her forehead.
Valentina elbowed her mate. “Did I not tell you that Aspen and Camden were true mates? Hmm? You disagreed. Said Aspen would not match well with sadist. Bah.” “I didn’t say he was a sadist,” James claimed. “I do think the guy who trained him was a sadist. Kind of like your mother.” Valentina blasted him with a horrified look. “Must you be so cruel?” “She tried shooting me in the ass, and I’m the cruel one?”
Camden studied her face for a long moment. “There are zombies in the movie, aren’t there?” “What? No. Does it sound like a … Okay, so there’s a zombie apocalypse going on around the characters, but it’s not a major part of the plot.” “You always say that, and you’re always chatting shit.” He ate a spoon of ice-cream. “Pick something else.”
“It might have been if I hadn’t met you. You saved me. My sanity’s always been in your hands.” “Can I play with it?” He blinked, his mouth quirking. “What?” “I’ll be gentle, and I’ll only play with it a little.”
“You’re nuts. I like it.” “I’m not nuts, I’m—” “Seriously fucking nuts.
