Camden closed the door in the asshole’s face and turned to Aspen. “He believes you’re his mate?” She puffed out a breath. “Yes.” And Camden saw red. A haze just fell over his vision. His heart pounded. His chest ached. His gut twisted. And his cat roared so loud Camden wouldn’t have been surprised if she heard it.

Bailey gaped. “Son of a bitch. We totally need to dig out the tire iron.” Aspen dug her nails into the arms of the chair. “And also the claymore.” Corbin’s brow furrowed. “You have a claymore?” “You don’t?” asked Bailey. His frown deepened. “No.” “Huh,” said the mamba. “Well that’s weird.” “No, Bailey, it’s not. I’d say most people don’t own a claymore,” he told her. “That’s a problem they should rectify. Swords often come in handy. As do bullwhips.” “You have a bullwhip?” “You don’t?” “No.” “Weird.”

If you were Bailey, there’d be an endless number of potential suspects—she angers people like there’s a reward for it.” “Their anger is my reward,” said Bailey.

You might have Camden fooled, but I see you for what you are.” “Fabulous and irresistible?” “A cruel, cunning, selfish bitch who ruined her supposedly best friend’s happiness just because she could.” “Aw Randy, when it comes to your opinion, I could swallow ten boxes of laxatives and still fail to give a shit.”

She rolled her eyes. “You’re never going to be prepared for the upcoming zombie apocalypse if you don’t study these creatures,”

“You assume my mate is a ‘he,’” said Camden, scooping up more noodles. “I would have thought you would, too. I mean, you seem mostly into men.” He was into her. No other person—male or female—had ever come close to holding the appeal for him that she did. He didn’t seek out women, because where was the point when he’d only wish they were Aspen?

Her mouth pinched, the female raked her hard gaze over her. “I like the shoes.” What, they did small talk now? “Thank you. I like your …” Aspen gave her a head-to-toe inspection and then cleared her throat. “Well, it’s nice to see you.”

She frowned at Bailey. “You’re humming again.” The mamba’s brow creased. “Out loud? Really?” “How else would I have heard you?” “Oh yeah, never thought of that.” Aspen shook her head. “Just stop talking.”

James’s head jerked back. “Jesus. What sadist trained him?” “Not sadist, genius,” Valentina corrected.

He frowned. “I don’t want or need them to be my damn friends. I have you.” Bailey cleared her throat with a cough. “What am I, chopped liver?” He gave her a confused look. “We’re not friends.” Bailey gaped. “You don’t count me as one? Seriously?” “No.” “God, tigers are so rude.” “He thinks of you as family.” Aspen elbowed him. “Right, Camden?” “No.” Even though she knew he was kidding, Aspen swatted his arm. “Camden.” He lifted his shoulders. “What? You want me to lie to her?” Aspen nodded. “Yes. Yes, I do.” He looked at Bailey. “You’re like the sister I never wanted and am glad I don’t have.”

“Debating what would happen if a werewolf bit a zombie,” said Bailey. The grizzly grimaced. “What?” “As we see it, there are a few possibilities,” said Bailey. “One, the werewolf’s bite could turn the zombie into a werewolf. Two, tasting the zombie’s blood could turn the werewolf into a zombie. Three, the were—” “I don’t care,” Corbin said, raising a hand. “Please spare me this nonsense.”

it has a bit of everything. Humor. Action. Romance—” “Zombies.” “They’re such a small part of the movie.” “A small part?” “Yes, they’re not vital to the plot.” “Gorgeous, it’s called Shawn of the Dead. So I’d say those walking dead people are kind of important to the storyline.”

“Try and find a way to love me, even if only a little.” She raised her head and glared daggers at him. “I already love you, you big fucking idiot! How could you not know that?”

And your question was stupid, by the way. Believe me, I don’t dislike a single thing about the bond. Especially since you now can’t claim that we shouldn’t live together.” She snickered. “You would get all smug that you’re getting your way.”

“I didn’t say he was a sadist,” James claimed. “I do think the guy who trained him was a sadist. Kind of like your mother.” Valentina blasted him with a horrified look. “Must you be so cruel?” “She tried shooting me in the ass, and I’m the cruel one?” The wolverine flicked her hand. “You are too sensitive.” “Too sensitive?” James echoed. “She missed on purpose. It was joke. Prank.” “It was yet another attempt to kill me. She swore she wouldn’t stop until I was dead. That she was going to wear my severed head like a hat.” “She did not mean it. Always such drama with you.”

Snorting, Wayland shook his head. “I work with no one. I need no one.” He cast Grant a quick look. “I’ve seen this guy a couple of times. He seems to hate Camden. I can relate. But not enough to let him live.” Blood splattered over Aspen as a bullet tore through Grant’s head. The life left the enforcer’s eyes, turning them flat and empty. He sank to the floor, dead. And then the gun was aimed at her.

No wonder you’ve been sitting here quietly like a good little girl. You knew that Camden would suspect I’m here. I suppose you think there’ll be some sort of rescue.” “No, actually, I figure you’ll kill me now and then scamper.” Wayland’s brow furrowed. “Why exactly do you sound delighted by that?” “Because then Camden won’t have to watch me die. Oh, he’ll feel it. But he’ll be spared having to see it. And he’ll be so enraged by my death that, no matter what the breaking of the bond does to him physically or emotionally, he’ll hang on long enough to avenge me. And then you’ll be dead. Yay.” ...more

Maybe because, as a kid, his parents had that exact power over him. He needed to take it back. That is not you.” “It might have been if I hadn’t met you. You saved me. My sanity’s always been in your hands.” “Can I play with it?” He blinked, his mouth quirking. “What?” “I’ll be gentle, and I’ll only play with it a little.” He shook his head, as if she was hopeless,
