She groaned when he leapt onto the bed and settled at her side. “No, you take up too much space. And you snore.” He let out a yawn and closed his eyes. Stubborn motherfucker. “Just don’t shove me off the bed again.”
“I’d prefer that you acted normal for a change.” The mamba pursed her lips. “Sounds like that’d take some effort on my part. I don’t like effort. Count me out.”
Corbin’s brow furrowed. “You have a claymore?” “You don’t?” asked Bailey. His frown deepened. “No.” “Huh,” said the mamba. “Well that’s weird.” “No, Bailey, it’s not. I’d say most people don’t own a claymore,” he told her. “That’s a problem they should rectify. Swords often come in handy. As do bullwhips.” “You have a bullwhip?” “You don’t?” “No.” “Weird.”
If you were Bailey, there’d be an endless number of potential suspects—she angers people like there’s a reward for it.” “Their anger is my reward,” said Bailey.
“Aw, that was sweet,” said Bailey, glancing at him via the rearview mirror. “You like me, too, right?” Camden eyed her for a few seconds. “You have your moments.” The mamba smiled. “I’ll take what I can get.”
“He tries to boss me around sometimes. At first, it was kind of adorable because he truly thought it would work. Now it’s just sort of boring. He always seems so confused when I don’t do what he says.”
“Is he good with that dick? I’ve heard he is. Did you like it? If so, you’d better take that hot singer’s advice.” “What?” “Put a cock ring on it.” That was it. Aspen was done.
Camden cursed at the sight he found near the front door. Aspen’s bearcat had her paws clamped around the mamba’s neck and was shaking her violently, ignoring that the end of the snake’s body was slapping her over the head again and again and again. It wasn’t even an unusual occurrence. The animals often brawled, especially if left alone for longer than a minute. It was usually only Havana who managed to break up their fights. “You two cannot be serious,” he said.
She frowned at Bailey. “You’re humming again.” The mamba’s brow creased. “Out loud? Really?” “How else would I have heard you?” “Oh yeah, never thought of that.”
Aspen winced as Camden grabbed his opponent by the ear and bit into his face like a damn animal. “I forgot how plain mean he could be,” said Havana. “I didn’t,” said Bailey. “Hence the popcorn.” She spared Aspen a quick look. “And since it’s become clear that Grant was hoping to hurt you by hurting Camden, I am absolutely loving this.”
“What disturbs me most,” began James, “is that Camden isn’t doing all this because he’s lost his shit. No, this is as methodical as it is brutal.”
He looked at Bailey. “You’re like the sister I never wanted and am glad I don’t have.” The mamba smiled and put a hand on her chest. “Aw, thanks.”
As she pulled open the door, he followed her inside. Both of them stopped dead. Because Aspen’s sweet little bearcat had just flung Bailey’s mamba at the wall. The snake crashed into it with a pained hiss and then fell to the floor. “Oh for God’s sake!” Havana burst out. “You’re at work. Have you forgotten that? Work. It’s bad enough that you do this on your own time. You’re adults. Would it kill you to act like it?”
“Will you mind?” “Mind what?” Aspen sighed. “Were you even listening?” “Not really. I was wondering what the first person who milked an animal was actually attempting to do.” Havana let out a heavy exhale. “I’ll just take that as a ‘no.’”
Valentina blasted him with a horrified look. “Must you be so cruel?” “She tried shooting me in the ass, and I’m the cruel one?” The wolverine flicked her hand. “You are too sensitive.” “Too sensitive?” James echoed. “She missed on purpose. It was joke. Prank.” “It was yet another attempt to kill me. She swore she wouldn’t stop until I was dead. That she was going to wear my severed head like a hat.” “She did not mean it. Always such drama with you.”
Bailey double-blinked. “No, I did. I heard about the glue thing. It’s just … I don’t get why glue never sticks to the inside of tubs and bottles. I mean, what is up with that?” Aspen felt her brow knit. “Yeah, I don’t get it either.”
“Of course I’m smug. I have everything I want right here.” He curled his hand around her nape and pulled her head closer to his. “Kiss me.” “Will you watch Resident Evil with me if I do?” “No, baby. No, I won’t. But I’ll lick your pussy until you scream for me.” She pursed her lips. “That’ll do.”
“That’s nice, but can you get to work down there? I’ve waited long enough, and I didn’t even complain.” His eyes snapped to hers, lit with humor. “You thought I was going to eat you out?”
