God works through families. We see this in the contrast between the ungodly lineage of Cain and the godly lineage of Seth. Disobedience often begets disobedience; obedience often begets obedience. We also see this in the way that Noah and his family were saved from the flood by means of the ark. This pattern will continue throughout Scripture, and even provides parents motivation and comfort in the rearing of children: the covenant promises keep the next generation in view.
