Yet despite the newness and “betterness” of the new covenant (Heb 7:22; 8:6), Hebrews also speaks of covenant continuity. There is not an absolute antithesis between the old covenant and the new covenant; instead, it is a relative newness. The sacrificial system was sufficient for the old era, but in comparison to and in light of the new covenant, the old covenant is insufficient and ineffectual.
