“Sometimes it’s not the butterflies that tell you you're in love, but the pain.”
“Now, now, don’t get so cocky. Mark my words, son, it’ll happen to you. And all this…” he points around my office with an arrogant grin, “… will mean nothing if you can’t have her.”
“Love isn’t easy, Amelia. And the stronger and deeper the love, the harder it will test you. How else will you know if that person is worth fighting for unless you put it to the test?”
She’s everything you can’t have. And everything you want at the same time. A deadly combination that never ends well.
I’ve entered forbidden territory. The problem is, once you get a taste of it, it’s almost impossible to turn back.
“Because it’s you, Amelia,” he whispers so delicately. “You’re the one I can’t stop thinking about.”
“Then we keep us a secret. No one has to know but us.” “A forbidden affair…”
Me: I’ll write a list of all the bad things I’ve done. Will: What’s number one? Me: You.
“Yeah, go. But Millie, you know if the parentals find out, you’re both dead meat?” I let out a sigh. “Yes, Ava. That’s the gray cloud forever hovering over us.”
“Are you willing to tear apart your family for some guy?”
“I know you better than you think. Once upon a time, your eyes looked into mine the same way they’re looking into his.”
Surrounding us, people hug and kiss, but all I can do is stare into the eyes of this beautiful woman I want to call mine. Forever.
“I’m in love with you, Amelia Edwards,” I admit, gazing into her eyes. “And no one will stop us from being together. I promise you this.”
“Amelia, for as long as you choose us, I’ll protect what we have,” he urges, running his thumb against my bottom lip. “Do you promise, Will? This will get harder before it gets better.” “I love you, Amelia. No one will stand in our way, and that includes your father.”
“Mom?” I murmur, the tears springing to my eyes again. “How did I get myself in this mess?” “You fell in love,”
Amelia: I will always choose him.
“Amelia, I never wanted to hurt you nor make you choose. But we’re at different stages in life. I can’t have you give up everything for me.” “And I can’t have you give up everything you’ve worked hard for just for me.”
Yet all the money in the world means nothing if I can’t have the woman I love.
“And love isn’t supposed to be this hard,”
And that’s the trouble with love. It’s the greatest feeling in the world, if only for a fleeting moment. Yet, a broken heart will last a lifetime.
