don’t expect a congratulations from you, Dad. But you, of all people, understand the importance of working hard toward your goals, unlike some other children of yours who’ll remain nameless.” I purposely ignore Ava’s roll of her eyes. “I have studied hard to get straight A’s. I don’t spend my weekends shopping or attending parties. In fact, I’ve declined almost every social invitation aside from tonight’s, which you so easily refused my attendance. I’ve done nothing but invest my time into making sure I got the results needed to get into an Ivy League school.”
“Lex Edwards didn’t become a billionaire because he plays nice. But with you, it’s different. You’re his daughter. Besides, Mom and Aunt Charlie will knock some sense into him, so I wouldn’t worry.”
“We’re going to have so much fun. Just stand your ground. In the end, Uncle Lex will be proud you fought him for what matters most to you.”
But a word of warning, one day you’ll wake up and realize that being alone is a punishment, not a blessing.”
“You have the Edwards’ blood in you. Strong, born a warrior.”
Then I find her in my office, and the second she spun around, those emerald-green eyes did something I can’t explain. I couldn’t breathe like I’d been punched in the chest, which has happened to me during several boxing matches. The exact feeling stays with you, almost as if you’re close to death because you can’t perform the simple act of breathing.
If I have to fight my dad to be with someone I care deeply about, then so be it, I will.”
“I could’ve stopped you, don’t underestimate my power when there’s something I want which someone else tries to steal.”
She’s everything you can’t have. And everything you want at the same time. A deadly combination that never ends well.
A soft chuckle escapes his lips. “It was a great nap. We should be nap buddies.” “Nap buddies?” I follow with a laugh. “Sure, I’ll just drive here every weekend, and we’ll schedule it in. Who needs a law degree, anyway? Napping is way more important.” “Too much sass coming from you. You’re ruining my Zen.”
“Because it’s you, Amelia,” he whispers so delicately. “You’re the one I can’t stop thinking about.”
Biting down, I use every muscle I have to control my fucking dick from blowing right here, right now. Every forbidden fantasy of her, all of them have become a mind fuck over the last two weeks, is happening right in front of me. It’s a blessing and a curse, the fruit and its temptation,
feels perfect. Like everything that’s missing from my life. There’s just one problem. Nothing will change the fact that she’s Lex Edwards’ daughter. The man who reigns over all, the ruler of his kingdom, and as of now, I’m his biggest threat. The man about to steal his princess.
Will purses his lips, his body only inches away from mine. “And I don’t understand why I want to tear apart any man who touches you in the slightest.”
“You discover yourself through dating?” “Yes.” Mom chuckles openly. “What you will or will not sacrifice. What you desire, how you enjoy spending your time… a lot can be said for dating.”
“I’m in love with you, Amelia Edwards,” I admit, gazing into her eyes. “And no one will stop us from being together. I promise you this.”
“Amelia, for as long as you choose us, I’ll protect what we have,” he urges, running his thumb against my bottom lip. “Do you promise, Will? This will get harder before it gets better.” “I love you, Amelia. No one will stand in our way, and that includes your father.”
My little girl is gone.
Yet all the money in the world means nothing if I can’t have the woman I love. The beautiful woman still standing in front of me. Amelia Edwards.
