But context is important. As previously noted, for reasons that aren’t clear 2013 was a freakishly safe year for cops, with just twenty-seven killed on the job, an all-time low. There were forty-eight killings the year before, fifty-one killings in 2014, and forty-one in 2015. So, the anomalous year here is 2013, not 2014.
