A sharp sound reached his ears, and Joe’s eyes slowly turned to spot the source. “Was that a cat? Why would there be a cat out here?” He moved faster, knowing that a domestic animal wouldn’t have a chance at survival if they met a monster. “Here, kitty kitty!”

Why is he this stupid?

Because he refuses to learn from what is happening and relies on habit. This is why he has become a boring charater. The fact that he points it out to himself repeatedly makes him stupid.

At the sight of her expressive and hopeful face, there was no way that Joe was about to tell her ‘I can’t make you into a priestess and fulfill your lifelong dream… because I already used my power today so I could ask about the breed of my new cat’.

This right here is so ridiculously stupid I am tempted to quit reading.

He had been hoping that he would be able to train his ritualistic forging with the Grandmaster, perhaps becoming awesome at it.

Even though he was specifically told that could not happen. What happened to this character? Why did he get made into a greedy, thoughtless moron. Why?

Still, he resolved to try to do that going forward.

Meaning he forgets about after two seconds.

“Okay, I think I was woefully unprepared for this trip.”
