The speech and the breath of God appear together in the record of creation. “The Spirit [breath] of God was hovering over the waters. And God said . . . and there was . . .” (Gen 1:2-3). “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath [Spirit] of his mouth” (Ps 33:6).
