if I am not willing to forgive others then I am not asking God to forgive me, no matter what words I use. I am asking God to excuse me, but not asking God to forgive me.
Justice is God giving me what I deserve. Mercy is God not giving me what I deserve. Grace is God giving me what I do not deserve.
the person who suffers the most when we will not forgive is ourself.
“To forgive is to set a prisoner free, and discover that the prisoner is you.”
If we will decide, as an act of our will, to forgive, God will give us grace to do it—and we will be free.
As the Pharisees rightly asked Jesus, “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (Mark 2:7). And so many others throughout church history have said that we are never more like God than when we forgive.16
God does not tempt anyone, but he does test everyone.
God puts us to the test to reveal and to refine, to reveal whether we are trusting God or not and to refine our trust in him.
We are not just creatures of the Creator. We are not just servants of the Master. We are children loved by a Father.
Jesus has given us access to the throne of the universe. He can give it because he has it all of the time.
