galaxies are flying away from one another at a speed increasing exponentially in time. As a result, in a mere hundred billion years, we and our local group of galaxies will be permanently cut off from the rest of the universe, as if we had fallen into a black hole. No light, energy, or anything else from the rest of the universe will ever reach us.
