That’s definitely Kara sitting with her friends. Did she come…to watch me? Then it hits me—of course she came to watch me, she’s probably still working on the article. And for some weird reason, that thought…hurts a little.
The kiss, though? It was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced in my life. She wasn’t my first, but it was wow. More than fireworks on the Fourth of July. When she and I locked lips, the world stood still—no, it poured all its goodness onto us. Showered us.
“You look beautiful tonight,” he says after a few minutes I lift my head to his, my heartbeat zooming up. Did he…did he just call me beautiful? “Thanks,” I breathe. “You look beautiful, too. Handsome. I mean, handsome.” He laughs softly. “Thanks.”
am looking at you. I see a smart, beautiful, kind, caring, wonderful girl. A girl who means the world to me. A girl who has captured my heart. A girl whom I never want to let go of.”
He gathers me close to his chest. “I started falling for you when you played tea party and basketball with me and Bailey,” he whispers in my ear. “No, I think it was before that, even. You had such a bright smile that lit up your entire face. And every time you smiled, I felt something. In here.” He touches his heart.
“Want to know a secret?” I ask him when we finally take a break. “You’re the first boy I have ever kissed.” He smiles. “Want to know a secret? You’re the first girl I’ve kissed who actually means something to me.”
know I keep telling you this,” he whispers. “But you’re the best thing that could have happened to me. You changed my life, Kara. I love you so much.”
