I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. PHILIPPIANS 1:6 NLT
we’re all here because God created us. We’re not some random accident of molecules and evolution. We are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). We’re “marvelous” (NLT) and “amazing” (NCV).
God didn’t stop there, though. He made you on purpose and with a purpose.
God’s purpose for each of us is to love others and point them back to Him and His love.
Because God’s purpose is for all the seasons and circumstances of your life—the good times, the storms, the struggles, the heartbreaking times, the growing times, and the quiet times.
Don’t wait until you get your act together or you get it all figured out. Step into the life God is calling you to live now.
God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. 2 TIMOTHY 1:9 NLT
I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” ISAIAH 6:8
Let me say that you’ll see people who inspire and lead you toward your calling. But you aren’t called to be someone else—even if your callings look similar. I find my purpose by speaking truth over people’s lives, just as Alex does. But we’ll touch way more people if we each run in the lane God has set before us. Your calling is original.
hineni.” Hineni means “Here I am, God”—with no limits and no distractions.
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” MATTHEW 14:31
We have a lot of vision, and now I think what we really need is faith for the vision.” Now, that’s powerful! Faith for the vision!
So often we want God to show us the finished picture of His vision for us before we step out of our boat. But God doesn’t usually reveal the full vison. What He does give us is His Word, and through His Word, He gives us faith (Romans 10:17).
The LORD spoke his word to Jonah son of Amittai: “Get up, go to the great city of Nineveh, and preach against it, because I see the evil things they do.” JONAH 1:1–2 NCV
Here’s the thing: it’s not possible to outrun God.
“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life” (v. 6 NLT). Nothing will ever separate us from the love God has for us (Romans 8:38–39). We can ignore it, and we can pretend it’s not real. But God’s love for us and His calling on our lives will still be there, no matter how far or fast we might try to run away. Sure, you can keep saying no, and you can keep running. But God’s call will always be there for you to face. The purpose He has for you—that He chose for you before the foundation of the world—does not just go away. Follow God wherever He leads you.
Gideon replied, “If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the LORD speaking to me.” JUDGES 6:17 NLT
And if you believe you’ve been given a sign, make sure it’s really from God. I mean, not everything is a sign. Your “fleece” might be wet because somebody tripped and spilled water on it. Make sure any sign agrees with God’s Word, then talk to trusted mentors and keep on praying. I’ve found that we tend to overcomplicate who God is and how He speaks. Remember that His love is uncomplicated. If it’s truly a message from God, He’ll make it clear.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” JEREMIAH 29:11
Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” EXODUS 3:11
Moses had a whole list of excuses and insecurities, but the real problem was that he thought God’s call was about him and what he could do. It wasn’t. God’s call was about Him and what He could do.
When God calls you to do something—especially if it’s something you don’t feel qualified to do—start praying and just say yes.
The LORD will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. PSALM 138:8 NLT
Thinking we have a better plan than God wasn’t good then, and it’s not good now.
Here’s the thing: God can see our lives from a much higher viewpoint than we can. He knows the past, present, and future and how everything fits together. We can trust that His plan is best—even if it doesn’t make sense in the moment. We can’t ever out-plan God. His plans are perfect, and they’re perfect for us.
There are different ways that God works through people but the same God. God works in all of us in everything we do. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:6 NCV
So what was Jesus’ answer? He looked at Peter and, without answering his question but speaking straight to his heart, said, “What is that to you? As for you, follow me” (v. 22 NLT).
After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 KINGS 19:12
“When you draw near to God, he will draw near to you. . . . And if you’ll be quiet and if you’ll listen, you’ll hear the gentle whisper of a good God, who is always with you.”1
[Jesus] gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. TITUS 2:14 NLT
May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ. 2 THESSALONIANS 3:5 NLT
They made mistakes, but their obedience kept the kingdom of God moving forward. And that means you can be a move maker too. You aren’t going to do everything perfectly, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing what you can. Perfectionism is a bigger deal than we realize. It paralyzes us from simply being obedient. But you can decide to say, Here I am, God, with no limits and no distractions. Allow yourself to be moved by the Holy Spirit, and you will make a difference for His kingdom.
God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:8
you will probably feel called before you feel ready. Say yes anyway. If you try and fail, say yes again.
If you’re feeling called to do something you don’t feel ready to do, say yes anyway. Trust God to train you and teach you what you need to know. And if you fall, don’t worry. God will pick you up and help you to say yes again to the purpose He has planned for you.
A revelation is something that you’re suddenly aware of—like you suddenly become aware of what God wants you to do with your life (or at least part of it). A realization is when God makes that revelation actually happen.
Chances are, you will have a revelation of what God wants you to do before you see the realization of what He is going to do.
I needed to stop listening to some of the music I was listening to, and I needed to stop watching some of the shows and movies I gave my time to. I needed to start digging deep into Scripture and saturate my life with the Word of God.
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” MATTHEW 18:3–4
You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way. SONG OF SOLOMON 4:7 NLT
You are altogether beautiful, my darling. Wow, the Lord takes such great delight in you.
From this day forward, choose to turn your eyes away from the standard of what is “supposed” to make you feel confident and beautiful, and fix your eyes on the One who gives you everything you need to walk into the purpose He has planned for you.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. HEBREWS 13:8
I could not let what other people thought or said about me affect what I thought and said about myself.
people are fickle. People change. Their comments and opinions change. One day they can think you are the most awesome person on earth, but the next day, they think you’re a worm. Yep. People are fickle. There’s only one person who has ever lived who does not change, ever: Jesus. If you want someone in your life you can always depend on, He’s the One.
God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. GENESIS 1:27 NLT
God designed and crafted each of us with amazing individuality. God saw no need to compare one of us with another one, because . . . You are one of a kind. There’s no one else on earth like you. There is something of the image of God in you.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 JOHN 3:1
Let me say this once and for all: the answers you’re looking for—the life you’re looking for—are not on Instagram. Real life isn’t about photoshopped perfection. Real life is about imperfect people like you and me, coming to a perfect God and allowing Him to tell us who we really are: His beloved children, the ones He made with His own hands, the ones He adores so much that He sent His own Son to die for us. Now, that’s as real as it gets.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! PSALM 139:17–18 NLT
