Dr. Ehrlich had a theory. It was both brilliant and wrong. He thought that maybe the human defense system was built around a lock-and-key mechanism. When a disease came along, special cells of the body would come into contact with and attach to the virus or bacteria. Dr. Ehrlich gave a name to the attachment. He called it Antikörper.
