Lucas's eyes ping between Noah and me like he's watching a tennis ball crossing the court in a Grand Slam match. His voice is a hushed whisper. "Good God, there are two of them."
I desperately wish I wasn't effectively benched by this stupid cut. I would relish the opportunity to kill the fucker who gutted me all over again. Unfortunately, I have to settle for just the once.
"Here it is!" Red exclaims. He spins around and holds it out to me with a broad smile, letting me read it. Once in a while, someone amazing comes along. Here I am. The side without lettering has a sloth in a yellow polka-dot bikini. I was not prepared for this.
Noah looks at me like I've lost my mind for a second before he tips his head back and lets out a huge laugh. I've never seen him laugh like this. It's not just his mouth opening wide and the sparkle in his eye. I swear his whole face glows. I guess he's okay with the way I handled things. He's still laughing as I place the phone in his hand and try not to stare at this glorious man in front of me. The screen lights up with Sheila calling back, and he silences it as he stuffs it into his pocket. "Thank you, Trouble. That was my wife." Cue the sound of a record scratch.
