In Texas, as in many Republican states, there were naked attempts to suppress the vote. Governor Abbott restricted the number of drop-off sites to one per county, including in Harris County, which has over four million people. The attorney general, Ken Paxton, sued to block the enforcement of a mask requirement at the polls, endangering the voters as well as the poll workers, who tend to be older and more vulnerable.
