The WHO says that herd immunity is reached when 60 to 70 percent of the population have had the disease or have been vaccinated, although Dr. Fauci has upped the figure incrementally, saying that a more reliable figure may be between 85 and 90 percent. The increased transmissibility of the mutant variants makes the higher figures more likely.
