For the first year-ish of their lives, our boys slept with us or next to us, and when they cried, we responded quickly. Sometimes it felt endless, to be sure, but in short order, they didn’t cry much. Once they were sleeping in their own room, we had family nighttime rituals, like reading to them, but we also made it clear that bedtime was bedtime and that they should not game us.
