After all, people live their lives based upon their personal memories—based upon what they believe to be true—not upon an officially sanctioned version of events recorded in an objective history.
You don’t need to repress memories or to avoid the negative things that you have experienced in your life. In fact, you should remember the negative things that have happened so you can avoid repeating them.
Be active, not a passive worrywart. Find magic in the moment, joy in making someone smile. Listen to a lover’s sigh; look into the dancing eyes of a child you made feel special.
As Dr. Phil McGraw is fond of saying, “When you choose the behavior, you choose the consequence.”
