“I’d add the Seelie King to my harem for sure.” She gasped with an idea. “Do you suppose the human has a magic woo-hoo? More magic than mine?”
She heaved and thrashed and screamed. She would not go down. Her teeth gnashed. Strength came from somewhere deep in her reserves. But the asshole… he giggled! It was a warm, rich sound that melted her insides. “That tickles,” he murmured hotly against her ear.
“Bite me and I swear to God I’ll rip your testicles clean off your body.”
“What’s so funny?” “You,” he blurted. “You Well-blessed humans from the old world are all the same. Surprising. Funny. Cute.” He booped her nose. She blinked, agape.
He wanted her; he realized. The way a male wants a female. The way a lost soul wants to be found.
“I had thought seeing you smile would, I don’t know, make my day. But now I’m not so sure I like being the butt of your joke.”
“Why did you say we need to figure it out?” “Violet.” His voice deepened, his expression turning serious. “From here on out, it’s always going to be we.”
“Can’t very well have my mate blinding everyone when she gets afraid.” His lips curved suggestively. “Or blinding me when she’s excited.” Violet threw the potato at his head.
“What will you do with your power now? Will you shout into the darkness, or will you listen?”
If you’re concerned about me seeing you without your clothing, then naturally you’ll shield yourself.” The water parted for her as she pushed toward him and then stopped, inches away. “Seems logical… except for one thing.” “Which is?” “You’re assuming I don’t want you to see me naked.”
“Oh, and Violet?” he said, hand on the doorknob. “If you ask me again, I will bite you, and I will make it hurt… but only if it’s for the right reasons.” He would give her whatever she needed, even if it cost him. “And if it’s not?” she asked quietly. “Then I’ll make it feel good.”
There was a note. You seem to be fond of hiding weapons on your person. I look forward to hunting for this one. —Indi.
“Like the Seelie Queen?” Florrie gasped. “You’re mated to a queen?” “No,” he laughed. She was more like a goddess. He blushed. “Her name is Violet.”
Mitzie’s eyes shot straight to the glittering blue marks and then widened. “You… no. It can’t be.” She thwacked the back of her palm on Citron’s chest. “You see that? Violet’s woo-hoo is more magical than mine!”
“Those bits are sensitive,” he warned, voice scratchy and oh so sexy. “Only touch them if you mean business, Vi.” Her cheek moved against his chest as she smiled. “I like that nickname best.” “I’ll call you Vi if you call me Indi.”
Jasper narrowed his golden eyed glare but then sat before glancing at Violet and grumbling, “You have my condolences.” “Why?” Violet asked. “Your mate is a cheeky twat.”
“Okay, Buffy,” Ada drawled. “Color me intrigued. I’ll take you up on that conversation at a later date.”
Laurel glared at Ada. “I’m going to throat-punch your mate.” “Good. He’s getting cocky.”
His wings trailed behind him, and his hair caught the wind. Damn that dying sun, giving him a twinkle in his eye. The stupid shadow snake had taken to winking at her like they were old friends—almost
Puppies. Baby bats were called pups too. Violet smiled at that thought.
“Never dim your light for me, Violet. Ever.”
“This isn’t going to be a problem, is it?” she asked. “I thought you were feeling… good. Satisfied. Not all psycho mate.” “Where you are concerned, I will always be your psycho.”
“You did what?” Peaches asked. “Radiation?” “Long story. But I turned my light into something that harmed the Sluagh. It worked. We got out.” Peaches stared. “You became… ultraviolet?”
“I don’t know what I’m looking for.” “You’re looking for the other half of your heart.” Indigo’s throat closed. Violet’s eyes darted to him, and he couldn’t even summon a smile. Too much emotion hit him. He froze.
“I heard what you said in there and I need you to know something. You’re not just the other half of my heart, Violet. You’re the reason it beats. You’re my moon.” “Moon?” He grinned. “If I was ever lost, I would look into the sky and see the moon. I’d see our goddess shining down on us and know I would be fine. Maybe I was just waiting for you.”
