In matters of motivation, Samson is no different from the Philistines! He is motivated by revenge and retaliation, and he commits murder, destruction of private property, and so on. In many respects Samson manifests a number of characteristics of the fool (kesil) in the book of Proverbs. In particular, this can be seen in how the fool brings sorrow to his father and mother (Prov 10:1; 17:21), bitterness (17:25), and calamity (19:13). He has little regard for them (15:20).
