In section A (v. 7), the three women leave Moab and head for the land of Judah. The terms “leave” (yatsa’) and “go” (halak) correspond and contrast to section A' (v. 19a), where Naomi and Ruth “go” (halak) and “come” (bo’) to Bethlehem. With the convenience of travel in modern times, a simple fact may be overlooked: travel in ancient times was hard45 and very dangerous, especially for women who were alone. Brigands were common (cf.
