When David was unwell he could not manage the walk and I had to do it alone, in two batches, because five dogs was too much for one person. What we loved doing when we did it together became something I found burdensome doing alone, and I missed it terribly. Chronic illness does this, not only robbing you of the joint enterprise that you loved to do, but turning the solo version of it into something you can no longer enjoy.
