A piece of homemade bread was buttered and then used to slather the salted ear of corn, thus, in true Italian fashion, creating two dishes out of one, the ear of corn being the first dish and the homemade bread (now saturated with the melted butter, salt, and sweetness from the buttered kernels) being the second. This may have been the single most delicious part of an already delicious meal. An act so simple it’s almost stupid.

This is shown in an early scene from the motion picture WAR GAMES starring Matthew Broderick. My first viewing of this movie was in a theater and the response of the audience was twofold. First, sounds of revulsion as they watched Matthew's screen father liberally spreading butter on a slice of bread (the procedure shown very close up). Second, the epiphany (an AH HA moment) as he puts an ear of corn onto the bread.

Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine. 12:00 a.m. and 12:00 P.M. do not exist. They are correctly 12:00 Midnight and 12:00 noon, respectively.

Tucci has likely borrowed the final lyrics of what is often called the, unofficial nation anthem of Great Britain. The hymn is JERUSALEM, words by William Blake, music by Sir Hubert Parry. I was introduced to this majestic hymn via the motion picture CHARIOTS OF FIRE. A later generation might have first heard it sung in FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL.

Still heading northward, we pass Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s eponymous restaurant in the Trump International Hotel. His restaurant is as wonderful as his landlord is demonic.

One of this reader's favorite films, it was introduced to me by my New Testament professor at Lancaster Theological Seminary, describing it as "exquisite."

Perhaps not familiar to many readers, Holm is arguably best known for his role as the running coach for English and Jewish sprinter Harold Abrahams in the Oscar-winning movie CHARIOTS OF FIRE. Abrahams won the gold medal in the 100 meter dash at the 1924 Olympics in Paris.

in Vancouver I’ll be able to eat amazing Chinese or Japanese food, explore the great homegrown restaurants that spring up every year, and find great fresh seafood, meat, and produce to cook myself. I know also that my first stop will be my favorite restaurant, Cioppino’s in Yaletown,
