I always thought the heroines in books I read were far too lenient with the alpha males. They never made those bastards work for the right to be part of their lives, letting their hormones do the thinking instead of their brains.

Sure, we’d just made friends like toddlers in the park, but why did adults have to complicate everything? If you click with someone, be their friend. If they prove they’re not worthy of your friendship, bury their body and start again.

“How is it that you still don’t understand the danger of putting a foreign object in your mouth?” Shadow asked with a shake of his head. “For all you know, the water here could kill you in an instant.” I gawked at him. “You didn’t say anything when I had your dick in my mouth. Where was your concern then?”

“Your smart mouth is about to turn your ass red,” he murmured close to my ear, the hard length of his body pressing into mine as his power surrounded me. “That would be quite the skill,” I managed to choke out. “Not at all,” he replied easily. “Just count yourself lucky that right now, we have places to be.” I pouted. “I don’t consider that lucky at all, thanks very much.”

Damn her and her intelligent battle-ready mind. Next time we fought an arch-nemesis, I wanted one who was stupid. It was only fair.

He tried to kill me with his eyes, but unfortunately for him, he’d fallen in love with me and now he was stuck forever dealing with my shit. Sucker.
