“Have you told her?” I groaned, locking my jaw as I looked back out into the yard. “I can’t yet.” “You don’t have a choice, Peter.” “I do. We do. We don’t have to hurt her like this.”

What? Did he sleep with her best friend? What is up with Peter?

Was that why Ainsley was so upset? Had Glennon told her about us?

They have a mess going on.

“I’ve been cheating on you,” I said, a grimace on my face as I lifted my head from my hands. “With Seth.”

“Ma’am, there’s no easy way to say this. We have reason to believe Stefan De Luca is a serial rapist.”

“You didn’t kill Stefan.” I took another deep breath, stilling my shaking hands. “I did,” I said. And then, I told him everything.

I am clutching my pearls.

“For better or worse. Because your only choice now is to kill me yourself or stay with me forever. I own your secret now, Peter. I own you.”

My stomach twisted into a knot. The bag was nearly empty. No underwear. No rope. Only a single, white envelope with tape and her signature over the seal. She’d set the cop up. She’d known all along.
