A reporter for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat described later how he had been sent by his editor to see the senator, who was reportedly back in town briefly after one of his committee forays and staying at the Jefferson Hotel on 16th Street: I went up to the front desk and asked the room clerk for the number of Senator Truman’s room.
