“Do you really think I was able to rest with you teetering on a branch like you were? I spent the night making sure I was prepared in case you fell.”
“Look, little female. I can’t control it, so stop complaining about it.” His hand shot up to grip the back of her neck, dragging it forward until his mouth was a breath away from her ear. “You don’t hear me complaining every time the scent of arousal floods your cunt.”
“Your eyes were black. I don’t know how, but you were hurt in some way. And you were going to let him take you. What if you couldn’t get free?” “I would’ve found a…a way to…” Verakko’s words stuttered out as her words finally registered. “My eyes?” The world around him slammed to a halt, the thunderous pounding in his chest freezing as though even his heart feared he’d misheard her. I recognized her? She’s mine.
“Stay alive. Stay alive. Stay alive,” he swayed over and over, putting all the force he could muster into the demand. As though the universe sensed the importance of speed, his pace suddenly increased. His feet carried him across the desert faster than he’d ever gone before. Without stopping, he peered down at his hands and saw his marks. Bright blue and taunting.
“You helped me survive out in the forest when I knew so little. Let me help you survive here.”
How did one convince the other half of their soul to accept them?
“I’d follow you anywhere, mivassi. If your face is the only one I see for the rest of my life, I’ll die a happy male.”
This man was hers. It’d come as a shock earlier to have someone else point out the feelings she’d so viciously denied, but there was no doubt left. She’d been falling in love with his infuriating personality and hidden gooey center since they’d first met.
“Mivassi, I would’ve waited my whole life for you.”
