As though the universe sensed the importance of speed, his pace suddenly increased. His feet carried him across the desert faster than he’d ever gone before. Without stopping, he peered down at his hands and saw his marks. Bright blue and taunting.
How did one convince the other half of their soul to accept them?
“You’re telling me that marks you’ve never had before magically appeared on your wrists because we have some kind of connection you can’t have with anyone else?”
“I’d follow you anywhere, mivassi. If your face is the only one I see for the rest of my life, I’ll die a happy male.”
“Every part of me knows you’re mine. But I want all of you, and I know that if I force you into it, a part of you will always resent me.”
“I’m barely holding myself back from you even now. If you tell me you’ll be mine, that’ll be it for me. I’ll never be able to let you go. But I will do everything in my power to make sure you never become unhappy.”
“I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you if you let me.”
If someone walking by could see into her brain at that moment, all they’d see was scribbled hearts with the initials V and L.
Do I know he’s mine? Yes. Lily sighed, melting against his warm, rumbling chest. Do I know that I love him? Yes. Deep down, she felt it. Somehow, someway, the bond was real, and despite everything she’d been through, she could feel it pulling them together inextricably. This man was hers.
“I love him. I love how impatient and snarky and intelligent he is. And how he softens when he’s around me. I’ve been traveling the world since I was young, and I’ve never felt like I fit anywhere.” Verakko’s brows relaxed, and his chest expanded. Lily sniffed. “But I fit with him. And I don’t want to be anywhere he isn’t.”
“Mivassi, I would’ve waited my whole life for you.”
