Oh, and the entire place would smell like sweaty balls. There's no smell quite like a jail smell…except for sweaty balls, I guess.

"You're just alien. I'm sure you're very handsome for a battle-smurf."

I know she's heading for the mattress, looking for a blaster. She can take it if it makes her feel less worried. I'm not afraid of her shooting me. It'd probably just make me fall more head over heels for her.

Jade just shakes her head at me. "Are you ever serious?" "Not if I can help it. That's Mathiras's job." "One of your brothers?" "Tallest one," I agree. "Looks constipated." "Probably because he's dealing with your shit," she quips. Aaaaand I'm in love all over again.

"So…how? Because I want to be your friend." Jade keeps walking, her gaze on the hall in front of us, but she gives her head the tiniest, rueful shake. "That cat might be out of the bag. I don't know if I can trust you." "So…" I continue, not willing to give up. "How do I put that cat back in the bag? Also, what's a cat?"

"I can't be trusted around weapons…or laundry."

It's a good thing she has someone like me. I'll make sure she never takes things too seriously. I'll make sure she smiles. And I can massage the stress out of her shoulders every night. Kef me, I think I just gave myself a boner.

I wonder if it'd be too forward of me to ask her to sit on my plate and be my dinner? Probably.

"You've just got a one-track mind, don't you?" "Two tracks, actually. But they're both going in the same direction."

"Or we could work together," I propose. "Partners." Sure, partnering with Bethiah will be like partnering with a black hole—unstable and completely dangerous—but I'll take those chances.
