Paul exhorted the Roman Christians to put their gifts to use when he said, “According to the grace given us to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the proportion of one’s faith; if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching; if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness” (Romans 12:6-8, CSB). Our gifts serve as a platform for us to engage in fulfilling the Great Commission by making disciples. We are all called to live out our beliefs, share our faith, serve others, and disciple less mature believers. All these tasks are a part of the call to salvation. All of them lead to a healthy, vital church as well. Every born-again Christian has a role to play in the life of his/her church. None of us are called to simply be “spectators” in the story of God’s Great Plan of Redemption.
