“I tease Wolfgang because he is young and naïve. I tease Iskandar because he reminds me of Arty,”
“Aww, let’s hope the little prince or princess looks like Odette,” she said and glanced up at me. “We wouldn’t want them stuck with that ugly face.”
“Once or twice?” she exclaimed. “Why would you give me back to that monster after the first time!”
“You might not like it, sir. It may not be what you figured, but they look at her and think, it doesn’t matter where you come from; you can end up being a queen.”
“Sir,” Balduin spoke up. “This might be embarrassing for you.” No, it would be embarrassing for the prime minister.
“She would destroy me, right?” “Instantly and without mercy.”
When I woke up in bed, I knew immediately where to find her. She had been craving one thing and one thing alone: ice cream. It was almost like water for her. I didn’t understand it. She had it with a side of everything, every day now!
“Not at all,” I lied, watching over her….and this fit.
“Ahem!” My mother’s voice reached me, reminding me where we both were. “It’s starting.” Dammit. I frowned, reaching for the strawberry myself.
“What is this?” “My notice, sir,” he said. “Are you in love with me like the paper said?” I asked him. “No, sir,”
“I’m sure, sir,” he replied before reaching into his suit jacket and pulling out another damn letter and putting it on my desk.
I would not be mad. I would take that as a compliment because when had any man or government been able to control the weather?
“I sent Wolfgang to bring him back. And if it takes too long, I will send Balduin. And if they take too long, I’ll send Thelma, then Mr. Parsworth; one by one, I’ll send everyone in this palace after him. I don’t care how it looks. I will call an army if I need to,” I repeated, causing Eliza to snort.
“No, he rests on us. The Monarchy. He protects us; he fights for us because he believes in us. Like millions of other people in this country, he trusts that when the going gets tough, we will stand by them. What are we going to do next time the press attacks one of the people close to us? Let them go? When it’s family, we weather through it. When it is the staff or the help of the guard? They are simply replaceable? No. I refuse. Loyal people should be treated with loyalty,” I stated, rising from my chair. “Whenever you go somewhere, I’m less worried because I know Iskandar is right there,

I didn’t reply. So she chuckled at me. “One would think you were the one in love with him.” “Mother, please!” I snapped.
“Oh, God!” I stood as still as possible. “What do I do? Can you kill it?” “Why would I kill it when you are in its home?” he asked, and it was just then I realized whose voice it was.
I wasn’t good at many things but being stubborn was one of them.
“So, wait. Are you making jokes in the palace whenever you do that? Or are you being serious there?” I grinned and didn’t answer. “I’m going to tell the king.”
“We’ve made the kings wait,” I whispered to her. “It wouldn’t be the first time,” she whispered back to me. I grinned…yeah, my mother was right. I liked her.
“If I don’t believe I deserve happiness, then I must believe I deserve misery. And I have not done anything horrible enough to deserve that.”
“Balduin, are you hurt?” he asked, looking down at him. “I didn’t write it, sir, but I think I may speak for all of them when I say…no. They aim for boring.”
“Ladies.” Gale leaned over, looking at me. “You can ignore us during the dinner. But can we get there first?” King Arjun snickered. “You are a brave yet foolish man interrupting them.”
If my father were alive to see her…he would die again of a broken heart.
She was pregnant, and yet I could see it…all-black mourning, sobbing, holding a child…No… No.
“I just put it at green,” Erkin said to him. “Put it back at yellow,”
“Have some decorum; the country is mourning,” he reprimanded me.
“Gale, it hurts…” “I know. I’m sorry,” I whispered, kissing her head.
“It does. I cut it because I am joining the Military Medical Corps!” Eliza said proudly and even stood to attention.
“Never. My daughter is a perfect angel. I don’t know how you ended up with a trouble-making rebel.” I nodded to Eliza.
“She is, sir.” Wolfgang grinned. “He has been corrupted by you,” I said quickly. “He’s always on your team. Iskandar, I’m counting on you, to be honest as always.” Iskandar stared at me blankly before saying, “I believe she has you, sir.”
