“You’re quite the impatient one, aren’t you?”
“I’m so sorry. I’m Miller, Jo’s boyfriend.”
“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”
She leaned forward, threw her arms around his shoulders, and buried her face against his neck. His arms immediately wrapped around her back and pulled her against him, one hand stroking the back of her head. “It’s going to be okay,” he murmured. “It’s going to be okay.”
She stared at him, wide-eyed. “I’m sorry—I don’t know why I—” He grabbed her face with both hands and crushed his lips to hers.
She’d been kissed a million times before, but not like this. His mouth devoured hers as if he were starving for her.
And the way he was looking at her, the openness in his eyes, she couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t think, except to wonder if he’d looked at her like this all along, and she’d just never noticed.
“Jo. I don’t want to do this when you’re drunk. If you woke up tomorrow and regretted it, I would never forgive myself, okay?”
“Do you hate me?” she asked. He stared at her for a second, and there was something behind his eyes she couldn’t understand. It was like he was…deciding something.
“Not yet,” he breathed. “Just—let me.”
